Case Study: Lookcool — Brand Identity for a Clothing Brand Built from a Single Graphic

Project Fact Sheet
Lookcool
Sportswear and casual clothing brand, mass market
Key highlight
The letters 'l' at the beginning and end of the word 'lookcool' have been transformed into a pair of brackets. They read as a logo, function as a standalone mark, and serve as a frame for any brand slogan.
Lead
For a clothing brand on an overcrowded shelf, it is easier to disappear than to stand out. Most mass-market brands use the same devices: an English name, a similar font, a couple of bright colours. The customer flicks through labels and stops noticing the differences.

To ensure that the Lookcool brand is recognised at every touchpoint — from a trouser patch to outdoor advertising — the team built the identity around a single strong device. And they pulled it directly from the name itself.

This case study is useful for clothing brands looking for a precise visual hook to start selling without a large production or advertising budget.

The Challenge: A Strong Mark Without a Large Advertising Budget
Lookcool was entering a segment where the winner is not the one who shouts the loudest, but the one with a recognisable detail. The mass-market shelf gathers dozens of brands speaking the same language. The customer remembers none of them.

The client needed a system that solves three tasks simultaneously:

  • Works on clothing as functional labelling: label, patch, zipper pull
  • Reads clearly in communications: packaging, advertising, social media
  • Remains recognisable at small scale and in any production material
The Idea: What to Do with a Name That Speaks for Itself
The name Lookcool is derived from the English phrase 'look cool'. The client came with ready-made naming and wanted the brand identity to continue this directness — not to hide the meaning behind abstraction, but to amplify what is already in the word.

The art director noticed the graphic structure of the spelling. The word 'lookcool' begins with the letter 'l' and ends with the same letter. Two identical verticals on either side. When drawn with slight serifs as mirrored stripes, they cease to be letters. They become brackets that frame the name.

Thus the concept 'brand in brackets' emerged. The name constantly sits between two vertical lines. Those same lines become a standalone mark: two stripes without letters. The mark is readable on a clothing label, on a zipper pull, in a store interior, on an advertising layout. The logo and the brand mark function as one idea at different scales.
The Brand Element: 'Brackets' That Embrace the Brand
The branded 'brackets' are the same vertical lines that live in the logo, but extracted separately. Inside the brackets, short phrases, seasonal slogans, and product inscriptions are placed. The format is strictly regulated: up to three words, up to fifteen characters, lowercase, bold weight.

This is a simple but powerful device. The brackets require no expensive printing, complex illustrations, or visual effects. They automatically turn any phrase into 'Lookcool identity'.
Assets: Label, Hardware, Packaging, Communications
The Lookcool brand identity is designed for recognition at small scale. Less words, more graphics.
